Our new garden sign has arrived just in time for Spring! This is one of my favorite times of the year because it means meeting and welcoming new gardeners to our community. If you’re looking to join, we have a few plots open right now. Only 4 though, so head to the plot availability page to send a request.

It’s that time of year again! The sun is out, the weather is warming and the ground is ready to be worked. Right now is a great time to plant cool weather crops such as, broccoli, kale, chard, carrots, spinach, peas, and onions. Sometimes it can be hard to know what to plant. Especially if you’re just getting acquainted to the area or even to gardening in general. Two great resources for this area are:

Our original long term goal of the community gardens was to one day have a market. Now that we have the gardens running well, we decided to go for it and start The Farmstand. Every Sunday from 12-4, a few locals, community gardeners and whoever else wants to join in, sell our produce, handmade goods, and food. It’s been a great time connecting with our local community and meeting new people. Stop in and say hi!
Come and visit my greenhouse to see what's been growing this winter. I have many heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, herbs, and some flowers for sale. Everything is grown organically. Feel free to e-mail me at russianrivergardens@gmail.com to set up a time to pick your veggies!
A new group of 20 garden plots are being installed. We expect a finish date in late April. Right now our waiting list is at 10 people, and if you'd like to get a spot visit the plot availability page to be added to the list. When the gardens are finished, I will contact each person, and the first payment of $35 is required the day we meet for you to choose a plot!
Thanks to a friendly neighbor, we now have bees residing on our property. They needed a sunny location, and we can use the pollination for both the gardens and the apple orchard. Happy for this win win situation!
I learned a quick and easy way to save seeds after attending a class on peppers at the Heirloom Festival in Santa Rosa. You take a coffee filter and write the name of the seeds you are saving, also include any notes about the plant, such as flavor or color. Next place the seeds in the middle of the coffee filter and fold the sides around them. Slip the entire thing into a clear ziplock bag. The coffee filter not only keeps the seeds dry, it contains your notes which will not fade or wash off. Come spring, you will be able to easily take out the seeds and get planting!
We had our first ever Harvest Party last Sunday. It was nice to come together with all the gardeners plus their family and friends. Everyone brought a dish made with fresh ingredients from their garden, and the food was fantastic! What a wonderful time relaxing in the warm weather, meeting new people, and enjoying farm fresh food. Until next year!!
We are officially rented out here at Russian River Gardens. We will be posting availability if anything opens up so make sure to check back around November for that information. We are also happy to take names for the waiting list. Just email us and let us know you are interested and we will add names to the list in the order we receive them.
